Kirkwood Career Academies
At Central City, we encourage all students to choose an academy to take their 11th and 12th grade years. In partnership with Kirkwood Community College, students have the opportunity to take classes on site in Monticello. Students can choose between a number of "Academies." Most academies focus on a career area such as nursing, auto technology, advanced manufacturing, and graphic design. Two other academies focus on helping students complete prerequisite and required electives. Students take up to 3 college courses each semester at JREC. For more information, contact the school counseling office.

Kirkwood Online Courses
Students at Central City have the option to take online college classes through Kirkwood Community College. Students can complete the work anytime, from anywhere. Most online courses will set strict timelines, but students don't have to do the work at a certain time of day. Many instructors require discussion board participation, quizzes, assignments and exams. Most students who take an online class will receive a study hall designated to completing online coursework. For more information, contact the school counseling office.
